Barrett was stopped dead in his tracks by a barely recognizable flash of red and white, other wise known as Mikayla. She might not have been much but as far as height or weight but the sudden collision with his legs certainly had him making an effort to keep his balance. Of course he immediately scooped down, easily untangling her arms from his legs and hoisted her up in a hug, securely.
Whatever unease he might have been feeling for the past few days was suddenly crushed flat at the sight of his daughters smiling face, the giggle, and the sight she made in general.
"I didn't know they were letting royalty in here tonight," he said teasingly with a wide smile to match hers. "I would have made an effort to dress up more."
He kind of mumbled that to himself as he lifted a hand to tug at his collar once more sliding his hand up to rub the side of his face, which was covered in the beginnings of some facial hair, he was thinking about keeping it...
"Maybe a shave..." With a laugh he ducked his head down rubbing his chin lightly against Mikayla's cheek tickling her, all the while heading for the dance floor.
"Of course I'll have a dance with you, baby girl." He remembered to answer her as they entered in the midst of the crowd turning easily around once before placing her down and quite out of place bowing to the little girl. Knowing she would just love the antics. Holding out his hand to her he smiled in a somewhat more subdued way but nothing that would clue her in that he had other things on his mind..."Shall we?"

Mikayla shrieked a laugh as her Daddy whisked her off her feet. She threw her arms around his neck, so happy to be here with him. It was almost Christmas, and she couldn't wait to give him the drawing she had done special, just for him.
She giggled again as he called her baby girl, and tickled him with the shadow of whiskers that was etched across his face. From her high-up perch, she could see most of the students who were dancing, and admired all the pretty dresses that the big girls were wearing. (Though hers was the nicest, she thought.) "Daddy, when I'm one of the big girls, am I going to dance with you, or with one of the big boys?" There was no doubt in her mind that, in six years, she would be one of the big kids, dancing at the Yule Ball after finishing exams.
When he placed her down, she immediately took up one of his hands and began to twirl under it, before taking the other one and starting to waltz. (Or as close as a five-year-old could come to waltzing while she held her father's hands.) There were pictures in her storybooks where people danced, and all the big kids, at least the ones who were dancing close together, were doing it wrong. And Mikayla was going to dance right. "Daddy, why don't they dance like the pictures in my books?"

Barrett hadn't been able to completely focus on Mikayla like he thought he would and instead his gaze had lifted and settled on Trent, his wide smile faltering somewhat as he settled in to have a dance with his little girl. The tension between the two was palpable, thick and uneasy and again he found he didn't know what to do. Idly he flicked his thumb over the silver band on his right ring finger and managed to bite back a sigh.
"Daddy, when I'm one of the big girls, am I going to dance with you, or with one of the big boys?"
The question caught Barrett so off guard that he actually did a double take at the small blond haired child, her tone so serious that he wasn't able to answer. Clearing his throat and humming he decided that now was not the time to worry about him and Trent. "I don't know about that...I might have to talk to the boy first to see if he's good enough to dance with my little girl."
With that he grinned affectionately, but honestly hated the thought of his daughter in any relationship. And what was she talking about? She was only five...weren't boys supposed to have cooties?
Barrett couldn't help but smile a little more genuinely when she took the lead, doing some version of a waltz he was sure, but he let her have her fun. Her second question caught him off guard as well and he opened his mouth, taking a furtive glance around he noticed that most of all the students were doing their own thing. Standing close and with a slightly pained expression he fished for an answer. Quickly he smoothed his face out to another smile and looked back back down to Mikayla - only able to shrug.
"I don't know, baby girl, maybe they don't know how to dance right, like you."
Glancing up again he looked around for Trent on instinct, knowing he would have come in and when he finally spotted the man he was sitting at a table with someone Barrett didn't recognize. Frowning lightly he only let his gaze linger for a minute before letting his eyes sweep back across the great hall, landing on Acila, he caught her eye briefly and offered a rather watered down version of the smile he had reserved for Mikayla, it seemed.

Mikayla was an observant child, when she tried to be. She noticed that Daddy and Papa seemed to be having a fight, but she trusted the adults in her life to be able to work things out on their own. Maybe though, they needed a bit of help. "You should dance with Papa next because he loves you and you're supposed to dance with the people you love at the ball." Her five-year-old sensibility dispensed with for the night, she concentrated on spinning on her toes.
And Barrett really didn't have to worry, at least for a while. Mikayla wasn't particularly interested with dancing with anyone man other than him and Papa. And possibly Mr. Snaily, but the pup hadn't attended this particular ball. So there were exactly two men who were important to her at the moment, her fathers. "That's okay. You can make sure that they aren't mean."
And Mikayla kept dancing "right", twirling and spinning as she wished. Unfortunately, the thing she was most interested in was the dresses that the other people were wearing, and she was only at about waist-height. "Daddy?" The little girl said, craning her neck back so she could look up at him, "Could you pick me up so I can see better?"
She wanted to survey the ball, and the hall full of splendidly-dressed people. This was one of the reasons why she loved living in Hogwarts Castle. There was always something going on that the little girl found beautiful and amazing.

Katya had let Kade go, they had both spotted his brother and while she was tempted to join him and stir up some problems there it wasn't quite time for that at the moment. Her eyes were set on one particular form, that of the headmistress. But again the timing for that interaction wasn't right either. So her sights settled on the next familiar one she saw - Barrett Lond. Trent's lover and that must have been the daughter she had heard about...
With a devious stray thought she supposed there was no better way to kick off this party right then to introduce herself. Easily slipped her way though the crowd as she headed to the dance floor - seemingly the people moving out of her way as she made her way toward her intended goal unaffected by any lingering stares. Katya couldn't help the natural allure and compulsion but she could control it somewhat, which is exactly what she did at the moment.
If there was anything she had learned about Acila Derfiana after all these years it was her weakness - her family, those she held dear to her and she was prepared to strike at her heart tonight. And it happened to be about three feet tall, in a white dress with curly blond hair. Obviously from her daddy. Katya didn't even attempt to stop her smirk from growing in malicious delight as she neared the two, her eyes flickering toward Kade only briefly but saw that he was already standing to leave his brother.
When she finally approached she stopped short of the two her lips curving up into something a little more friendly - or rather she hoped so. "Well hello there...it seems we haven't been introduced quite yet, but I feel like I already know you both so well."
Her green eyes slid down from Barrett's face to the little girls, both of their attention hers, having interrupted what they had been doing. "Forgive me," she said in a smooth tone before shooting her gaze back up to the groundskeeper, "I happen to be a...ah - business associate of your lover's brother, Kade Dawson."
She didn't offer her name or anything of the like, because Katya had other things on her mind...but she was sure the name would ring a bell for Barrett. And while he did try to piece that together she bent down somewhat till she was a little more eye level to the girl by her fathers side. "And you must be Mikayla," she offered. "Such a pretty name, for no doubt a sweet little girl..."
Reaching a hand out she trailed a finger along the girls cheek to her chin tilted her childishly chubby features up to look at her properly and couldn't help the flash of distaste run through her. There was enough of Acila in the brat to make her see nothing but the woman. She was careful though to possibly hide that fact, her finger didn't even twitch in the urge to so easily snap her little neck right there...

Acila had been preoccupied since the beginning of the dance, doing her due diligence and mingling with some of the non school guests as was expected of her; along with taking care with the added security the ministry had sent and making sure that everything was going off without a hitch. With her wine glass in her hand she excused herself from a guest and started making her way through the crowed to where she had seen Barrett wave at her earlier.
Truth be told she hated this gown, oh, it was so pretty on the rack. But it was constricting and tight and then poofed out into a plethora of lace and frill making it hard to walk in her heals. Not to mention she had to constantly watch her train so that it wasn’t stepped on. The bun off to the back side of her had was pulled tight and giving her a tension headache, and her lipstick tasted horrible and the jewelry felt heavy on her skin.
Actually, if she was really being honest, she would be having a much better time if she had a date. It seemed so pointless for her to be so dressed up, to have expended so much time, money and effort just to put on a good show. The smile on her face wasn’t entirely fake though, as her eyes fell onto her daughter, who was having a grand ol’ time. That alone made it worth it in her eyes.
They then moved over quickly to the woman in a extravagant black gown, bent over talking to her, with vivid black hair. Acila didn’t recognize her, but as she got closer to her family she could feel an indistinct pull, faint but present. Coming up behind Barrett, a hand on his shoulder as she stepped up beside him she introduced herself, catching the woman’s attention. “You must be the Veela that I was informed would be in attendance, though I was under the impression they had blond hair.” It wasn’t rudely said, simply a inquisitive statement said with a genuine smile. “I am Acila Derfiana, Headmistress of Hogwarts. I hear you came with Trent’s brother yes? Are you enjoying yourself thus far?” she asked kindly, looking down briefly to smile at her daughter.

Even in her childish observations, with the fact that Mikayla had been able to tell in the first place that he was distracted, he couldn't help but smile a little down at her when she seemed to offer up the solution.
"Of course, baby girl, but I am just having to much fun here with you," Barrett answered as she spun underneath his hand again making him chuckle softly. As usual she seemed to have boundless energy that evening and it was all he could do to keep up with her, conversation wise and physically. By no means was he old and out of shape, but he was no match for a five year old it seemed - like the way her train of thought seemed to skip from one thing to another.
He was about to accommodate Mikayla and her request to be picked up when he paused, in his slightly stooped position, feeling a unfamiliar tug at his senses causing him to look up over the top of his daughters head. He straightened instantly though not liking the unexplainable pull and tingle there. His hand automatically went to settle on Mikayla's shoulder pulling her in closer to his side when a woman he didn't recognize approached.
She was attractive, certainly, with her dark hair and dress to match in a classically sexy way - there was something undeniably appealing about her that much was for sure, pleasing to the eye. But there was something about her that left him feeling uncomfortable, like there was something not right about her.
When she spoke, it didn't get any better.
Barrett could only raise a curious eyebrow at her also. They were supposed to know each other? But at hearing the fact that she was connected to Trent via family member he frowned a touch deeper. Kade. He hadn't heard that name in sometime and he certainly hadn't realized the man was going to be attending the ball this evening. He stiffened however when she bent down drawing her attention to Mikayla and he was left with the unexplainable urge to pull his daughter away. There was no plausible reason for his sudden protective streak however so he stood rather rigidly, not liking one bit the strange woman's tone, at all.
It was the feel of a small hand running up the back of his shoulder that broke him out of his slight glare of the stranger, making him look to the side to see Acila stepping up. She looked absolutely fabulous and he gave her a small tight smile in greeting though it faltered almost instantly at hearing the words Veela.
"Veela?" he said somewhat surprised and glancing back at the woman now standing up straight. That would explain the reason why he had felt the odd pull and what not, it put him at ease, but if only by a fraction. He still had a hold on Mikayla however, like if he was to let go he would lose her. It was foolish of him really. All in all he let the headmistress take the lead on the conversation, after all she was the one with the impeccable social skills. However...one thing struck him as odd.
"I didn't know Trent's brother would be attending..." he said quietly almost a tad to tensely but not because his lovers family was going to be here...just because he wasn't told.

Kade excused himself from his brother, the smirk on his lips devilish and far too pleased for a man that had just talked to a brother that was no doubt down and out. It was about time that Trent got a taste of what being unlucky felt like. He’d gone his whole life feeling second best to his brother, the one that got the magic and went to the special school – the one daddy and mummy loved best. The one that got a great job, had a good savings, already had a family and spouse. It was going to feel absolutely great to bring that man down a more than a few pegs, to be the cause of his destruction.
Catching sight of his Princess talking to Barrett and the little brat he made his way over through the throng of dancing sweating bodies. Some of which who were hardly in their puberty years, apparently he hadn’t missed much seeing as the only thing this school had that his high school didn’t before he dropped out was floating candles and a castle. Big deal. He however did manage to glance down at the exposed cleavage of some of the older girls who wore dresses to attempt to impress, but only managed to look like cheap whores pinning for this or that.
If only he didn’t have a job to do, he’d show them exactly what they were looking for and dreaming about…and rip it to shreds….literally. So many innocent souls thinking about that perfect kiss, that perfect night, the perfect boy. They wouldn’t survive the night with him. That was one thing him and his brother had in common really….they both had unspeakable charm when they wanted it, the difference was the purposes that they had to pull out said charm.
Kade’s charm was the kind you would never want to be on the receiving end of.
With a masking smile replacing his smirk he made his way up to Acila, Barrett and the Brat [as he has so dubbed her]. He winked at his date briefly, before turning to Barrett and holding out his hand, letting the women ‘talk’ for now. “Kade Dawson, Trent’s brother.” He said in a firm voice, the kindness in it completely fake but still believable “I can’t say that I have heard tons about you but it’s obvious when he does talk about you that he loves you. He assured me that you all knew we would be coming so I didn’t see the harm in introducing myself.”. He hated the fact that his brother had shacked up with another man, it was disgusting and deplorable of the both of them, and made him sick – but he wasn’t about to ruin the plans for the evening. He also couldn’t help but get a jibe in on his brother, “not sure why he isn’t introducing us himself – seems he is a bit….preoccupied at the moment.” His tone hinted with just enough of that knowing quality to probably make Barrett uncomfortable.
He also couldn’t miss the opportunity to rub salt in a wound “This happens to him sometimes, I wouldn’t take it personally. I am sure its nothing you did.” he said sympathetically, stressing just the right words with the right tone that could win him a grammy and also serve his purpose – if the man’s emotional eyes were any indication of his success.
“I usually wouldn’t step in with my opinion, but seeing as we are family and I have known Trent since we were little well – “ he let the sentence trail off into a small shrug, making it seem like he really was just trying to give friendly advice and comfort in his own way. Looking down he let his gaze fall on the brat, but he let his smile widen. An expert in deception.
“And who is this lovely princess lighting up the ballroom?” he asked, changing his tone into something soft, pleasant and excited. “You wouldn’t be Mikayla would you?” he asked, squatting down to her level, his arms resting on his knees as he brushed back some of her gold ringlets. She definitely didn’t get his brothers genes…..that was painstakingly obvious even if he hadn’t known the situation. He wouldn’t doubt that she would scream so prettily. “I’m your uncle Kade.” He said with a wide smile, opening his arms up in a inviting hug. “Come give your uncle a hug darlin’” he let his tone soften, along with his facial features.
Looking up at Barrett, his hands encircling the small lady and patting her on the back. “With your daddy’s permission perhaps I could take my niece for a dance?” he asked, directing it at both of them though his eyes were looking up at the man standing above him before pulling back and looking at the small girl “That is if the princess wants to....” he said with a half laugh.

If there was one thing she loved about the ball, it was how beautifully everyone was dressed. So when she saw the woman in the amazing black dress, her eyes went wide. Who was she? Luckily--or so the little girl thought--she was on her way over to Mikayla and her daddy.
"Thank you, ma'am." She said politely as the dark-haired woman complemented her name. "I'm Mikayla Dawson Lond. But I have a bunch of nicknames." But really, she was looking in awe at the lovely dress. If she didn't know better, she would say the woman was prettier than Mummy!
But then Mummy was there, confirming that, yes, the Headmistress was the prettiest woman in the world. Now that that bit of confusion was removed, she was happy to turn and look at the man who had approached. He looked familiar, in some strange way, even though she had never met him before.
He was her uncle? She didn't know about any uncles. (Any real uncles, that is. She had a few "Aunties", like Auntie Lindsey and Auntie Chloe, but they weren't related to her.) But he smiled at her, and called her Princess, just like Daddy and Papa did. So she went to him, allowing the strange man to draw her into a hug. She threw her arms around his neck, glad to have discovered even more people in her already-large family.
Did the princess want to dance? Yes! "Please, Daddy? Can I go dance?"

Somehow, Katya kept herself from stiffening at the sound of Acila's voice, her green eyes flashing to the side as she straightened herself and let her hand fall away from Mikayla. She kept the fact she would much rather sink her teeth into the woman then listen to her natter on mindlessly, she was even able to keep the small curve of her lips in place as she listened, feigning for all the word like she was actually interested in listening to what she had to say.
"Ah, well, there is that stereotype on Veela. I actually happen to be one eighths...someone on my mothers side - a great aunt of my cousin twice removed. Terribly watered down throughout the years, you see..." it was to far fetched to be of real fact even she knew that, but it was her word against what Acila might know of the race. It would explain however, the slight pull people would feel toward her, and the fact she didn't come with blond hair and blue eyes. Magic passed down in the family gene pool did have a way of changing after all.
It was then she spotted Kade arriving and she felt a stab of amusement toward her pet. He seemed absolutely pleased at the moment and she could only begin to imagine why. Giving half a mind to what he was saying she turned toward Barrett and Acila as the man worked to win over the little girl quite easily. "I was hoping to meet, Kade's brother as well. I can only wonder what is the matter on such a lovely evening..."
Kade had done well to begin to split up the group, she just needed them to all separate now. And more then anything she wanted to be alone with Acila for now, Barrett not even a concern to her...though he might be fun to play with later - just like Trent had been.
"Would you care to join me for a drink, Headmistress?" Katya's eyes flicked down to the fluted glass, "you seem to be running a bit low, and I would love to here more about Hogwarts. You see I attended Beauxbatons."
However her tastes were running in another direction that evening, but having purposely fed from Kade earlier that evening she was able to control herself at the moment. She had plans, other plans for this woman and she wasn't going to let it all go to ruin because she got ahead of herself. She had years to perfect patients after all.

Any good vibes Barrett was feeling was almost instantly squashed when it seemed Kade made his appearance, and while he could see the apparently family trait of charisma in the man...he stiffened a little more. What he had to say almost sounded like it was a person rib toward him about Trent, despite the tone. However no matter how unamused he was at the moment he grasped the hand offered to him in a hand shake, firmly briefly - testing almost.
The fact was he hadn't been told, but it was obvious everyone knew but him which, quite honestly, hurt his feelings. He could understand why Trent would tell Acila...all precautions and formalities aside, why wouldn't he tell him. Barrett would have liked to know that his brother was showing up and with a date, that they knew about Mikayla and him, or rather how much they knew...seemed to know.
Before his hand could tighten on Mikayla's small shoulder she pulled away from his side and hugged her Uncle Kade, trusting blindly like any kid would do without reservation. He still felt uneasy about the entire thing but seeing Mikayla so taken to Trent's brother made him smile a little weakly, his fingers without weighing down his little girls shoulder felt oddly empty...
"Sure...baby girl," he said somewhat quietly and with noticeable hesitancy as he curled his fingers into a light fist. "Have fun."
Barrett couldn't stop himself from reaching out and brushing a hand over the top of her head lightly musing the curls somewhat affectionately. Why did he feel like he was giving something up? He let his eyes linger on the two as they went off unable to shake the feeling that was creeping under his skin - maybe it was because of the tension between him and Trent. Something hadn't been right in a little while where they were concerned, and maybe he was projected the uneasiness on everything else around him.
That had to be it.
However lost in thought he was he did manage to catch Trent's brother's erm...date asking Acila to join her for a drink. He got it, really. So with a small dip of his head he excused himself as tactfully as possible. "Well, ladies, if you'll excuse me, I've got my own date to find," with a small smile Barrett straightened, placing a hand on the small of Acila's back and brushing a small kiss to her cheek.
It was hardly out of place for him to do so after all, but the gesture was distracted and somewhat half hearted as he turned and made his way to Trent.

Acila listened to the woman talk, she could feel a familiar dull tug, like a sort of extra pulse wanting to pull her body closer to the woman. It was familiar because it was a feeling she wouldn’t ever forget, but it surprised her that a Veela would have the same sort of pull as the one she had felt so many years ago. Granted though the woman was very attractive and appeasing to the eye and had she been attracted to a woman and not attached to Trent’s younger brother she might have been inclined to ask her for a drink in a more romantic setting.
As it was she listened idly to her explanation, Acila wasn’t stupid, but she was ignorant when it came to the world of Veela’s, Centaurs and Werewolves. She didn’t have any experience with them first hand, only with Vampire’s and even then she wouldn’t be surprised to find her information, though insider was still limited. When she mentioned wanting to meet Kade’s brother Acila turned her head and smiled, but it was wearier this time – maybe some of the vibes she was getting from Barrett were brushing off onto her as well.
She wasn’t sure what was going on between the two, but she did know Trent had called off two classes this week already, which was very unlike him. “I am sure Kade can introduce you to Trent later.” She obliged, moving on instead to the offer of the drink and her desire to learn more about Hogwarts. Not that she would tell the woman too much, there was information that only those within the walls were privy to, and even then some that only the Headmistress and Deputy were privy to.
“I would love another drink…..” her sentence lingered on for a bit, as if she was trying to recall something. “I’m sorry, I didn’t quite get your name?” she asked, as she leaned lightly into Barrett’s normal show of affection as he excused himself. She also knew that Mikayla was off with Kade now, and if Trent trusted him then she trusted Trent, and Barrett seemed to trust him as well so that was a worry she wasn’t going to have. He was after all family, even if they hadn’t met until now.

That had been almost too easy; really he expected much more of a….challenge maybe. These people were far too trusting for their own souls good. Granted they had one of those cover stories that pulled at the heartstrings of loyalty and trust…but really? A family you hadn’t seen in five years just pops up out of the blue as if everything was hunky dory and you just go with it, entrust your daughter to a man your lover can’t even introduce to you personally.
It was far too easy.
It was pathetic.
It was costly.
He smiled down at the young girl with blond curls and her white and red dress; she was far too trusting as well. Maybe if she had had some actual blood relation to his family line, might he be inclined to think briefly floating thoughts of sparing her, but as it was she didn’t even have a drop of blood from his brother, a man he despised and resented to begin with….and thus, well, her twirls and giggles and smiles wouldn’t last long.
Kade let her lead the dance for now, putting on a continuous show for those around them, his smile fake but believable. He took the time to scout the area when he wasn’t fooling the girl who stood no higher than his thighs. He took note of exits, items that could be used as weapons, how many adults were around, the basics when knowing you were going to need a really fast, really good escape plan that was fool proof. Problem was this was his first time in the castle, so he didn’t even know the layouts, he had a lot to get comfortable with in a short time.
“So Princess,” the word made him inwardly cringe, that was reserved for his actual mistress, but he needed to win over this little things heart in order for any of this to work. “Do you like the ball?” he asked, picking her up and spinning her in the air before setting her back down. Slowly working their way away from her family as they ‘danced’.

She couldn't be sure if Acila believed her spiel about being one eighths Veela on her her mother side from a aunts cousin twice removed, but who exactly cared? What did matter was that it wasn't exactly a problem at this point apparently since she seemed to agree to have that drink with her. Oh how Katya really wanted to have a drink with this woman...
But she would behave, the evening was going so smoothly, just perfectly in her opinion and soon...very soon the real party would start, and Acila would know the meaning of real loss. Would taste the same bitter taste of it as she had for years now.
As she waited for Barrett to excuse herself, something she didn't mind one bit, she stepped up beside the woman and lowered a hand hand to rest just a little higher then the small of her back lightly, perhaps in a gentle urge in a certain direction. "Forgive me," she said lowly, breathed out practically. "I'm Katya...Katya Furse."
But the touch was as such she would take it however she wanted. Despise wasn't a strong enough word in Katya's opinion to describe what she felt for Acila, in fact she didn't think there was one word in the known human language to express her hate - how she utterly loathed the woman and wished for nothing more then to bath in her blood.
However, she liked games, she relished and cherished being able to manipulate, twist and bend anything to her will. The headmistress would be no different. Katya would enjoy drawing out every ouch of pain she possible could give to the woman - she deserved anything she was going to get.
But for now she would play the attentive, interested and enthralled party goer, if not come across charismatic, and alluring at the same time. She would enjoy herself as she drew Acila in before crushing her little world all that much more - pressing her back against the wall and let her know that it was only a matter of time before -
"I've always been terribly interested in this school, its so famous," she said keeping up a pleasant conversation as best she could all the while keeping herself close to her, and finding it hard to control herself at this point. Katya was just plain excited at the moment. Of course it was understandable, one part of a long plan was coming into fruition tonight and it was something to enjoy as much as she could. "There is just so much history in these walls that I have heard mere rumor about, and to think a woman as young as you? Headmistress...how ever do you deal with the pressure?"
By the time she had finished talking they had arrived at the refreshment table littered with all sorts of drinks ranging from the common pumpkin juice which she had come accustomed to in her school days to something a little more adult - the champagne. Stepping away from the woman she smoothly removed the glass from her hands and set it down only to pick up two more and replace her warmed drink with a nicely chilled one.

As soon as Barrett was gone, heading out to find his own date – she could feel the hand on her back gently urging her in a different direction. If she hadn’t known for sure that she was the date to Kade, she would have taken her gesture completely differently because that was more something she was used to Barrett or her dates doing. She let the woman draw her in the direction of the refreshments table, her long ruffled train even harder to watch out for then her own blue silk and lace chiffon, if anyone did step on it though, the woman either pretended not to notice or didn’t really care.
The name Katya was also interesting, and for some reason there was a voice in the back of her head that said maybe, just maybe she should know that name from somewhere…..but she brushed it off with a idle thought, she thought she knew every name from somewhere when she thought about it. After all there were how many people and how many names in the world.
When she started talking about the school however, Acila slipped into her usual montage that she used for the Ministry workers and other various famous people that would drop by who often carried deep pockets. It was always the same questions and statements really, ‘oh you’re so young’ , ‘how are you dealing with the pressure’ , ‘tell me some secrets about the castle’. Rita Skeeter was the bane of her existence, spewing rumors and taking those questions to the extreme.
“Yes well, the pressure usually doesn’t get to me, I work better under it. Consider it a motivator.” She answered, letting the woman take her drink and replace it with a new one as she took one of her own. “As for the school, it really depends on what you want to know….” She filled in the rest with tid bits of fact about the age and the founders, about the programs they run and the grounds around them…stuff that was incredibly disinteresting to her considering this was supposed to be a dance and she had purposefully left a delegate in search of Barrett, Trent and Mikayla earlier to get away from those very topics.
“I am curious however,” she said after she finished “How you and Kade met?” she didn’t know much about them and wanted to learn more, since they were family, and gossip was far more entertaining then boring old facts. Her eyes turning to catch the man and her daughter on the dance floor, a smile tugging at her lips. She could see the family resemblance.
